Overview

On completion of this course, you will have gained the knowledge and skills to contribute to the implementation of a broad range of contemporary WHS issues including compliance with WHS and related legislation, WHS consultation, systematic WHS management, hazard identification, risk assessment and risk control. This course is suitable for people wanting to gain entry level WHS officer/advisor positions in organisations where workplace health and safety is part of their duties.

Duration:

The course is typically undertaken part-time over two semesters (5 subjects each semester). You will participate in approximately 10-15 hours of scheduled training per week throughout each semester. In addition to the scheduled contact hours, you will need to engage in individual study which consists of online lessons, interactive learning activities, required research and readings, and project work.

Depending on your circumstances, you can adjust your study load by enrolling in fewer than 5 subjects each semester. If you have relevant work experience and/or other relevant qualifications, you may be able to seek recognition or fast-track through the learning requirements and complete your qualification in less time.

Note: You will have 21 weeks (1 Semester) to complete any subjects you are enrolled in.

Entry Requirements

To study this course at 91ÊÓƵ, students must meet the following entry requirements:

  • Students require access to a work environment to be able to fulfill assessment requirements. 91ÊÓƵ provides access to work environments (real and/or simulated) for completion of assessable tasks where access to a current workplace is not available.
To be successful in this course, students should possess a solid foundation in computer literacy and demonstrate motivation and organisational skills to complete training and assessments as well as attend some compulsory sessions in a predominately online learning environment.

Students may be encouraged to undertake Foundation Skills accredited and non-accredited training to support their learning and success in the course.

To study any course at 91ÊÓƵ (excluding non-accredited training) you must have a Unique Student Identifier (USI).

Literacy Skills Information

We suggest that you will need Australian Core Skills Framework literacy levels of at least 3 across reading, writing, learning, oral communication and, depending on your course of study, numeracy skills to successfully complete this course. The unit applies to those who work under supervision and use some discretion and judgement to respond to monitoring hazardous chemicals in the workplace. It applies to hazardous chemicals with the potential to harm human health, which may be solids, liquids or gases – pure substances or mixtures. When used in the workplace these substances often generate vapours, fumes, dusts and/or mists.

The unit applies to those in an organisation who assist with the WHS implications of return-to-work activities.
